James "Bennie" Ballard

–

Russellville, AL

James Bennie Ballard, known to family and friends as Bennie, passed away October 24, 2026. He leaves behind family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Bennie loved the Lord, and his faith was a source of comfort and strength throughout his life. He was mischievous and loved to make others laugh. He had a personality all his own, and he was known for being every bit as stubborn as he was spirited. Of all the roles Bennie held in his life, his most treasured was "Pappy". His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved them immeasurably. Bennie was a devoted Auburn fan. His love for the Tigers was something he carried loudly and with pride. His passion for Auburn was as big as his personality, and game days were always more entertaining with him around.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Odra Mae, and his son, Benji. He is survived by his son, Larry Ballard, and daughter-in-law, Brittany; his grandchildren, Ryan Ballard, Courtney Liverett (husband Tyler), and Eli Mills; and his great-grandson, Kasen Liverett.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Burns Nursing and Rehab for the kindness, love, and compassionate care they showed Bennie.

Bennie will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. His faith, laughter, and playful spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His family finds comfort in the hope of a heavenly reunion and the promise of everlasting life.

Per Bennie's request a private service will be held, and he will be buried by his beloved wife Odra Mae at Hamilton Memory Gardens.
