Eunice Higgins

Eunice Higgins, 100 years old, of Russellville, Alabama, went to her eternal reward on October 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on April 26, 1926, in Russellville, Alabama, to the late Artist and Ludie Greenhill, Eunice lived a life deeply rooted in faith, kindness, and devotion to her family. She was a faithful member of Shady Grove Church of Christ, where she was baptized at the age of 13. She had 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Friday, October 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The service will be Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Akins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Church of Christ in Russellville, Alabama.

On July 23, 1948, she married the love of her life, Alvin Higgins. Together, they built a home grounded in Christian values, raising 10 children. To her family, she was a true spiritual guide—a devoted prayer warrior who modeled Christ’s love in her daily life.

She is survived by her children: Sheila Routhreaux, Linda Higgins, James Higgins, Judy Costales, Wanda Schuster (Les), Joey Higgins (Mary), and Susan Higgins; brothers Larry Greenhill (Linda) and Lanny Greenhill; sisters Jewell Reinhart and Gwen Pounders (Jerry); and sister in law, Brenda Greenhill.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years; her son, Alvin Jr.; daughters Barbra Jean and Joyce Ann; granddaughter Amber Costales; grandson Christopher Higgins; brothers Artist Jr., Jerry, Donald, and Danny; and sisters Gladys, Louise, Lila, Mary, and Betty Sue.
